Position Specific Description
The expansion of the transmission system will pave the way for a carbon-free future that allows renewables to be implemented in resource optimal locations and transported to load centers. In order to achieve this goal, significant amounts of new transmission infrastructure will need to be built. NextEra Energy Transmission (NEET) is the leading competitive transmission developer in the US and Canada to develop transmission solutions that enable this future.
The NEET Routing Lead will work with management and project developers in support of transmission development throughout the US and Canada. This position is responsible for coordinating design and refinement of new substation and transmission line locations. The position will excel at project management, documentation, and data modeling to design and support moderately complex special projects including transmission routing, project siting, maps, digital data, reports, and statistics; identify and deliver innovative solutions and development paths; and coordinate completion of projects with quality deliverables.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead team in identifying project sites, interconnection opportunities, and routing for new transmission projects
- Lead coordination with internal and external Subject Matter Experts and external contractors to arrive at the most cost-effective and competitive transmission solutions
- Lead weekly update meetings, documenting requests for routing changes and tracking key timeline and cost metrics
- Identify best practices for transmission routing exercises and optimization efforts
- Coordinate with internal and external Subject Matter Experts to support development Provide direction for land acquisition and priority
- Identify enhancements to state-of-the-art tools to better identify optimal transmission opportunities from the analysis of a multitude of scenarios and sensitivities
- proposals for new opportunities, including technical submittals
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
- May require up to 50% travel
The successful individual must possess:
- Effective written and oral communication skills to interact with technical experts, non-technical stakeholders, and executive management
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to effectively work within diverse teams
- Highly organized with the ability to coordinate and track large scale project information
- Experience siting transmission or renewable projects is preferred
- Ability to effectively communicate technically complex environmental, engineering and GIS information to those with limited experience in those areas
Location: Individuals in this position will report out of our HQ in Juno Beach, Florida.
Job Overview
Employees in this role develop and execute plans for new or enhanced generation projects. This job is responsible for resource allocation, schedules, cost and technical adequacy, ensuring the project or transaction is completed in the most cost effective and competitive manner. This position manages all aspects of the business deal and ensures the project is completed on time and within budgetary constraints.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Manages all aspects of the day to day transaction process to ensure timely completion as well as a cost effective and competitive results
- Leads and coordinates key functions such as financial feasibility analyses, engineering/design, project legal review, permitting activities and financial negotiations
- Coordinates due diligence activities with other internal groups to ensure proper analysis and structuring of assigned projects
- Acts as liaison between internal and external specialists regarding procurement, contracting, permitting and interconnection
- Constructs contractual arrangements for project development
- Negotiates agreements with consultants and subcontractors
- Ensures compliance with applicable technical and regulatory requirements
- Fosters external relationships with customers, third parties and members of the community
- Identifies opportunities and negotiates power sales contracts
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
