Position Specific Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead complex projects related to Independent System Operator (ISO) regulations, compliance initiatives, and interconnection processes. This role requires deep expertise in grid operations, regulatory frameworks, and stakeholder management within the electric utility industry.

 

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Management

  • Lead cross-functional teams in executing ISO compliance projects, interconnection studies, and regulatory initiatives
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, timelines, and budgets for complex regulatory and technical projects
  • Coordinate with internal departments, external stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to ensure project success
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies

ISO Regulations & Compliance

  • Ensure organizational compliance with ISO market rules, tariffs, and operating procedures
  • Stay current with evolving ISO regulations and assess impact on business operations
  • Develop compliance strategies and coordinate implementation across multiple business units
  • Serve as subject matter expert on ISO interconnection requirements and processes

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with ISO personnel, regulatory agencies, and industry partners
  • Represent the organization at industry meetings, working groups, and advisory committees
  • Facilitate communication between technical teams and regulatory bodies
  • Prepare and present regulatory filings, reports, and compliance documentation

 

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or related field; Master's preferred
  • 8+ years of project management experience in the electric utility industry
  • 5+ years of direct experience with ISO operations, regulations, or compliance
  • Experience with interconnection processes, transmission planning, or grid operations

Technical Expertise

  • Deep understanding of ISO market structures, tariffs, and operating procedures
  • Knowledge of FERC regulations and electric utility compliance requirements
  • Familiarity with transmission interconnection studies and queue management processes
  • Experience with regulatory filing processes and stakeholder engagement

Leadership & Communication

  • Proven track record of leading complex, multi-stakeholder projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and executive audiences
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to navigate complex regulatory and political environments

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous employment at an ISO/RTO organization
  • Active participation on ISO advisory committees or working groups
  • Professional certifications (PMP, PE, or equivalent)
  • Experience with renewable energy interconnection projects
  • Knowledge of NERC reliability standards and compliance programs

Job Overview

This position is responsible for the overall management of the team and assigned projects, to ensure compliance within required budgetary, scheduling, and safety goals. Employees in this role coordinate and manage construction work performed by contractors and/or vendors at the project site. Employees in this role manage the engineering, procurement and construction oversight-activities necessary to develop, license/permit, erect, start-up, and commence commercial operations.

Job Duties & Responsibilities


•   Works collaboratively with resources in various disciplines to determine project priorities and work plans
•   Meets corporate objectives with limited project management, scheduling and estimating resources
•   Manages department resources to provide effective early-stage project development support
•   Ensures projects are efficiently, effectively and safely implemented in accordance with department procedures and policies
•   Manages walk down of planned work, validates acceptance of completed work to design requirements, approves contractor payment requests
•   Verifies constructability, ensures proper resource allocations, assesses field status and resolves issues as needed
•   Leads project meetings and reviews budget, risk tracker, and contingency allocations
•   Interfaces with project's designated management committees, or acts as Executive Director of project activities
•   Supervises activities and/or coordinates activities or groups, such as safety programs, engineering, construction, budget, and analysis and contract administration
•   Oversees commissioning activities to meet corporate objectives, with limited project management, scheduling and estimating resources
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned
