Position Specific Description

Come join our Project Financial Analysis and Reporting team in expansion! This group is responsible for providing effective, timely and actionable financial information and business analytics to ensure NextEra Energy Resources is meeting its short-term and long-term objectives.  As a Financial Controller on this team you will be responsible for performing key financial functions for an assigned portfolio of electric generating facilities, including internal and external reporting, budgeting and forecasting, business analytics and certain aspects of the monthly close process.
You will use your strong drive and will to succeed to take ownership of assigned portfolio, adding value through critical thinking and strong inter-personal skills.


Highly Preferred Skills and Knowledge
• Holistic financial statement experience and acumen, including a comprehensive understanding of balance sheets, income statements and statements of cash flow
• Strong understanding of the economic and financial statement impact of all relevant documents (i.e. financing agreements, operating contracts, partnership agreements, etc.)
• Excellent analytical ability
• Prior experience with preparing internal and external financial reporting (i.e. management reporting, SEC reporting, etc.) including applicable variance and trend analyses
• Familiarity with budgeting, forecasting and accounting close processes
• Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles

Job Overview

Employees in this role are responsible for preparation of financial and operating reports at the plant or site level. This role assists with day to day accounting activities for a site, including preparation of journal entries, proper consolidation and reporting of all project entities, ensuring SOX compliance, site forecasting, preparing tax provisions on a quarterly basis and timely reporting.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

•   Learns and applies an understanding of the business including market forces and key operational drivers for assigned projects
•   Completes all monthly forecasting/accounting activities on a monthly basis
•   Works closely with other accounting personnel, business managers and financial reporting team members to ensure the proper accounting, consolidation and reporting of all assigned projects
•   Ensures compliance with current GAAP and identify and implement applicable new GAAP
•   Prepares timely and accurate quarterly and annual financial statements, internal and external reports and other discrete project reporting as required by partnership and financing agreement
•   Ensures Sox compliance with all processes impacting the assigned projects and provide timely responses to auditor requests
•   Prepares monthly tax provisions
•   Builds and maintains a strong working relationship with the tax department to properly account for income taxes
•   Participates in project-level financings and other Treasury initiatives
•   Participates in special projects, such as software implementation initiatives, Six Sigma projects and new GAAP implementation
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned
