Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy Inc. and Florida Power and Light are seeking a Principal Accountant at the corporate headquarters in Juno Beach. In this role you will be responsible for researching, analyzing and reporting on issues that affect the company in the areas of financial, regulatory, and property accounting.  Included are the preparation, review and distribution of property accounting reports, PowerPlan asset life cycle processing, performing SOX key control activities, and other special projects or process improvements within the assigned duties.  This position will review team member’s work as well as provide guidance and support to them.

Responsibilities include:
• Have an understanding of and be able to apply the Uniform System of Accounts as set forth in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)

• Ensure compliance with the rules and regulations set for by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Florida Public Service Commission and GAAP

• Interface with the business unit both in the role of accounting oversight and in optimizing accounting results and processes
• Provide financial information to various internal and external users

• Evaluate, enhance and implement internal controls, policies and procedures

• Complete special projects

• Assist in supervising staff and reviewing work of others

• Identify and recommend changes to processes to enhance the accuracy of accounting data and/or efficiency of the department.
• Maintain good understanding of, and apply, FERC, GAAP, SEC Regulations, Sarbanes-Oxley, and related company policies, practices and procedures

 

*Utility experience is a plus!

Employees in this role develop accounting policy through analysis of GAAP and business practices. Ensures accounting treatment is practical, cost-beneficial and accurately portrays the economic substance of business transactions.

Job Duties & Responsibilities


•   Analyzes proposed transactions for structure and proper accounting treatment under authoritative accounting literature
•   Reviews changes in technical accounting literature, develops positions and present to management
•   Maintains awareness of accounting issues being considered by regulatory bodies and advises management of important matters
•   Ensures consistent application of accounting policies
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications


•  High School Grad / GED
•  Bachelor's - Accounting / Finance
•  Experience:7+ years

Preferred Qualifications


•  Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
•  Master's - Business Administration
•  Master's - Accounting / Finance
•  Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
