Position Specific Description

The Full-Stack Prinicipal Programmer analyst will participate as a key team member in envisioning, designing, coding, testing and improving the solutions that that help NextEra continue to be recognized as the most innovative and successful renewable energy company in the world. He/she will work in continual collaboration with data scientists and Solar, Battery, Wind, and Pipeline Power Generation engineers and subject matter experts throughout the company. 

 

The Full-Stack Prinicipal Programmer Engineer will wear many hats. Some key challenges will include: 

 

  • Working with a modern tech stack built on AWS with Python, Lambdas, Angular, Java, Docker and more 

  • Building new front-end and back-end features, working with internal SMEs to create delightful and highly-performant applications 

  • Instilling best practices into the development process, including automated testing, code organization and style, and application architecture within an agile environment 

  • Evaluating potential new technologies 

  • Writing code that enables new processes and capabilities 

 

A successful candidate will be comfortable in a fluid, entrepreneurial environment and very high-paced environment, but one that is focused on developing reusable software applications, not bespoke analytical solutions. 

 

The programming languages and tools used most frequently are Python, SQL, Java, Javascript, , Github, AWS, Matlab, Docker and shell scripts. We do not expect candidates to be experts in all of these, although a strong proficiency in Python and the ability to learn new languages as needed are common. 

 

Preferred Qaulifications

 

  • A full-stack generalist with 2+ years of experience building applications 

  • Proven ability in writing clean, scalable code with significant experience in one or more programming languages 

  • Solid knowledge of programming fundamentals - algorithms, data structures, design patterns, and paradigms 

  • Excited to move fast and know how to prioritize and make critical decisions 

  • Comfortable with and curious about working outside of a traditional narrow engineering role 

  • A self-starter: you have started something on your own before -- an open-source project, a new project within a company, a start-up, or something else 

  • Can effectively communicate software engineering issues to business professionals, and business issues to software engineers 

  • Proven capability in creating a successful software product; owning/implementing key decisions on features, architecture, scaling, and profitability. Particularly in AI or solving a novel problem 

  • Experience planning and executing work modules that span several months 

  • Broad skill set that blurs the lines between software engineering and data science 

  • Exceptional computational background (e.g, significant contribution to libraries/modules and/or has a relevant PhD) 

  • Exceptional business background (e.g., managing client relationships and scoping projects while leading an engineering team, and/or MBA from a leading program)

Preferred Academic Qualifications 

  • Very strong CS, Math, Physics or similar degree from a leading program. PhD and MBA applicants actively considered

Job Overview

This position assesses, designs, develops, integrates and troubleshoots technology to support business processes. Employees provide technical or functional guidance to project or work teams, as needed within specific or multiple disciplines. This position is accountable for ensuring the reliability, performance, security, and continuity of IT systems, as well as ensuring that excellent technical support services are provided.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

•  Analyzes, designs, develops, tests, debugs, implements, maintains, integrates, customizes, and enhances existing or new systems

•  Applies appropriate Agile or development methodologies, system development lifecycles, tools, and technology to manage development activities

•  Automates the handoff of code releases from development to operations (DevOps)

•  Participates in the change management and  service ticket management processes including receiving, resolution monitoring, and ensuring customer satisfaction

•  Leads projects when needed and builds strong working understanding of the solution being delivered

•  Ensures user satisfaction by providing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and timely resolution of more complex problems

•  Designs, develops, and  tests experimental application work to test new ideas with bounded cost and time frames

•  Ensures that applications processes are conducted in line with corporate social responsibility, security, compliance, environmental, and technical policies and applicable standards and legislation

•  Acts as liaison with regulatory agencies, vendors, and contractors on matters relating to computer systems as required

•  Defines metrics and monitors Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for systems being developed

•  Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

•  High School Grad / GED

•  Bachelor's or Equivalent Experience

•  Experience: 7+ years
