Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy Resources is seeking a highly skilled Principal Business Systems Analyst to join our Information Technology organization supporting our Trading & Risk Management (TRM) business. In this role, you will partner closely with mid-office stakeholders to enhance the systems that power our energy trading operations. You will play a critical role in shaping technology solutions that improve credit exposure, collateral management, daily margining, and regulatory reporting across a diverse portfolio of commodities.

Key Responsibilities

Business Partnership & Requirements

  • Serve as the primary liaison between TRM business users and IT delivery teams.
  • Lead requirements gathering sessions with credit, collateral, and compliance stakeholders.
  • Translate complex business needs into clear, actionable functional and technical requirements.
  • Evaluate and document current-state processes; design future-state workflows that improve efficiency, accuracy, and control.

Systems Analysis & Solution Design

  • Support and enhance trading and risk platforms (e.g., ETRM systems, reporting platforms).
  • Analyze system behavior, data flows, and integration points across trade capture, scheduling, settlements, and risk.
  • Partner with architects and developers to design scalable, resilient solutions aligned with enterprise standards.
  • Create functional specifications, data mapping documents, and interface requirements.

Project Delivery & Change Management

  • Lead multi team, multi system initiatives from concept through deployment, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities.
  • Drive requirements definition, solution design, testing strategy, and implementation planning for complex TRM enhancements.
  • Mentor and guide other analysts, promoting best practices in analysis, documentation, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Communicate program status, risks, and impacts to executive stakeholders with clarity and confidence

Operational Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide senior level oversight for production support of mid office applications, ensuring stability and timely issue resolution.
  • Conduct deep dive investigations into discrepancies, data anomalies, and risk calculation issues.
  • Identify and champion opportunities to automate manual processes, reduce operational risk, and enhance system performance.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends in energy trading, risk analytics, and regulatory developments to inform future strategy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 8–12+ years of experience in business systems analysis with significant exposure to mid office or risk functions in energy trading, commodities, or financial markets preferred.
  • Experience with cloud architectures, APIs, microservices, and modern data platforms.
  • Strong command of SQL, data modeling, and complex system integration patterns.
  • Proven ability to lead cross functional initiatives and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to simplify complex concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Strong understanding of mid office processes: credit exposure, collateral management, compliance, SOX regulations, credit ratings, deal confirmations, counterparty management.
  • Extensive experience with ETRM/CTRM platforms (e.g., Endur, Allegro, RightAngle, FIS, or similar).
  • Prior leadership or mentorship experience within an IT or risk organization.
  • Agile program leadership experience.

  • Maintains a familiarity with market trends in technology
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
