Position Specific Description

Working within the Information Technology Enterprise Architecture Group, in this role you will develop and maintain the strategy and logical / technical architecture for Enterprise IT Architectures. Example focus areas include: Cloud Native Architectures, Microservices Architectures and Platform based governance.  Key responsibilities of the role cover: technical research; developing prototypes; gaining organizational commitments; communication with internal and external stakeholders; guiding IT investments; shaping vendor and industry groups; conducting pragmatic evaluations of technology; supporting and maintaining a well-defined framework and set of standards on which the Enterprise can operate and grow; and the ability to translate business / technology vision to practical NextEra Energy opportunity / impact assessment.  The Enterprise Architect will continue to develop and refine next generation computing and solution standards to maximize cost effective anytime, anywhere, any device experiences. 


Candidates applying for this position must demonstrate a high level of proficiency in the following: 

  • Deep understanding of the technical complexities and opportunities for: Cloud computing (including comparative analysis of CSPs, hosting models, Infrastructure as Code); SaaS; Platforms such as ServiceNow and Salesforce; Serverless computing; Containerization; CI/CD, Application of Automation to the above and SDx in general 
  • Ability to view business and technical enterprise from end to end 
  • Expertise with reporting on existing solutions and emerging technology trends in business terms 
  • Strong bias for action and ability to work across multiple business levels and technical areas 
  • Ability to facilitate hard discussions to reach consensus decisions (where possible) 
  • Strong aptitude to learn, ask the hard questions, and drive value based IT innovation 
  • Excellent communication, written and presentation skills to both technical and business audiences 
  • Experience with IT and business architectural principles and methodologies (e.g. TOGAF) 
  • Consistently make sound decisions based on key business drivers (not just technical concerns) 
  • Demonstrated champion of change with willingness to challenge the norm to promote and foster continuous IT improvement 
  • Ability to build/maintain contacts with experts in line of business, vendors, and consulting / industry organizations 
  • Capable of representing the company at state and national industry groups 
  • Demonstrated ability to document and deliver information for mass consumption and adoption (e.g. maintain and promote standards) 
  • Recognized as a leader (in the role as an individual contributor), with strong ability to mentor others 
  • Hands on experience within an R&D role, strong knowledge of technology evaluation principles and practices 
  • Practical understanding and demonstrated application of Quality tools (e.g. Six Sigma, Lean) and Agile development methodologies

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works with business partners to analyze strategy and trends to define the requirements, principles, and models that guide technology decisions
  • Communicates and enforces technology standards with business partners
  • Understands industry trends and the practical application of existing, new, and emerging technologies
  • Drives digital innovation and develops roadmaps through new technologies and approaches to fulfill strategic business plans
  • Defines high-level migration plans to address gaps in current state
  • Coaches, mentors, and leads technical subject matters experts to enable and drive consistency across technology architectures
  • Designs and owns governance, assurance, and standards activities for enterprise technology architecture compliance
  • Oversees and facilitates the evaluation, risk assessment, selection, and design of hardware and software technology and product standards
  • Delivers technology architecture artifacts, possibly including reference architectures or concepts of operation
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Grad / GED
  • Bachelor's or Equivalent Experience
  • Experience: 7+ years
