Position Specific Description

Primarily responsible for forecasted model calculations related to Gulf Power, including variance analysis for actuals vs forecast and forecast vs forecast.


Additional responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and analyzing rate base impact due to changes in forecast and business requirements
  • Determine appropriate handling of capital investment from acquisition/build through useful life in accordance with FERC and GAAP
  • Monitor and update O&M, capital expenditures, working capital and other forecast  assumptions needed to ensure accurate forecasting
  • Maintain accurate data in UI sourced from PowerPlan and BPC; and ensure data flows from input source through Financial Model reports
  • Liaison with FCOE-Accounting and FP&A teams
  • Participate and contribute to developing financial forecast on a monthly basis
  • Achieve a strong technical working knowledge of the Utilities International software model and be able to perform tasks seamlessly for actual and projected periods, including modeling new transactions, maintaining control reports, and prepare analysis as needed
  • Update monthly MOPR pages for the forecast area; Assists in the development of ad hoc analysis and prepares MOPR inputs.
  • Provides effective support in the Preparation of Gulf and FPL’s revenue requirement related to Minimum Filing Requirement (MFR) schedules filed in a retail base rate case review.
  • Provides leadership to others in the department and assumes lead role on various regulatory dockets.
  • Other tasks as assigned


Experience and Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics.  Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years accounting or financial experience with a minimum of at least three years utility experience dealing with regulatory issues. 
  • Good understanding of electric utility industry trends and issues, particularly in the regulatory arena as it relates to economic regulation. 
  • Knowledge of such regulatory concepts as Rate Making, NOI, Rate Base and Regulatory Capital Structure.  Specific rate case experience preferred.

Employees in this role supports Senior Management decision making via financial modeling, including but not limited to, revenue requirement and customer bill impacts, discounted cash flow analysis and financial statement modeling.  This position identifies and conducts complex analyses of financial impacts of issues and/or decisions facing the company and proposes strategies to maximize financial performance of company.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

•   Identifies, analyzes, and communicates to management the impact on the Company's financial structure, profitability, financial integrity, and competitive position utilizing relevant analytical methods and/or department’s forecasting models
•   Provides financial analysis support for various projects, calculating revenue requirements, net present value, customer bill impact, etc.
•   Provides expertise, support, and financial training for the company departments requiring these services
•   Performs financial analyses as required by management or regulatory bodies
•   Makes recommendations on financing decisions and executes long and/or short term financings
•   Prepares PowerPoint presentations to be provided to Senior and Executive Management 
•   Acts as a mentor to lower level employees
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

•  High School Grad / GED
•  Bachelor's or Equivalent Experience
•  Experience: 7+ years
