Position Specific Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Principal Accountant to join our Project Analysis and Reporting (PAR) organization within NextEra Energy Resources (NEER). This role will be primarily responsible for responding to audit requests and preparing accurate financial statements in accordance with US GAAP for our privately financed renewable energy projects. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting knowledge and proven external audit experience. 

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting (60%):
•    Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements and accompanying footnotes in accordance with US GAAP for all NEER financings.
•    Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data and supporting documentation
•    Review, analyze, and explain financial results, identifying variances and trends
•    Coordinate with various departments to gather necessary financial information
•    Experience with impairment analysis/going concern procedures (ASC 360:Long-lived assets). 

Audit Support (30%):
•    Serve as primary point of contact for external audit requests
•    Prepare comprehensive audit documentation and supporting schedules
•    Respond to auditor inquiries in a timely and thorough manner
•    Assist in the coordination and completion of annual audits

Technical Accounting (10%):
•    Research and interpret complex accounting standards and regulations
•    Ensure compliance with US GAAP requirements and other regulatory filings (FERC)
•    Support implementation of new accounting standards and pronouncements

Highly Preferred Qualifications
•    Bachelor's degree in Accounting 
•    Minimum 5 years of accounting experience (US GAAP)
•    3+ years of audit experience (AIPCA audits)
•    CPA certification preferred
•    Proficiency in Workiva preferred and advanced Excel skills 
•    Experience with SAP systems

Job Duties & Responsibilities


•   Analyzes proposed transactions for structure and proper accounting treatment under authoritative accounting literature
•   Reviews changes in technical accounting literature, develops positions and present to management
•   Maintains awareness of accounting issues being considered by regulatory bodies and advises management of important matters
•   Ensures consistent application of accounting policies
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

•  Bachelor's - Accounting / Finance / Business
•  Experience: 6+ years

•  Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
•  Master's - Business Administration
•  Master's - Accounting / Finance
•  Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
