Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy is seeking a motivated Physical Security Specialist to join our Corporate Security team at our Juno Beach headquarters. This role provides foundational support for our enterprise-wide physical security program that protects our nation's critical energy infrastructure and maintains a safe-and-secure workplace. Key Duties:

 

Essential Knowledge:

 • Basic familiarity with ASIS Protection of Assets (POA) standards and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles
• Understanding of physical access control systems, video surveillance platforms, and intrusion detection technologies
• Basic knowledge of TCP/IP networking fundamentals
• Awareness of building and fire code requirements
• Willingness to learn Technical Security Countermeasures (TSCM) methodologies and threat assessment tools
• Professional certifications such as PSP, PMP, and/or CSPM

 

Project Management 

• Under general supervision, lead various physical security initiatives by providing technical support, design, and project management.
• Support the implementation of physical security systems that align with NextEra Energy's operational requirements
• Participate in cross-functional collaboration with Operations, Engineering, IT, and Regulatory teams
• Help coordinate vendor management and assist with security system deployments across NextEra Energy's facility portfolio

 

Operational Assistance

 • Support internal and external teams in responding to equipment issues and basic troubleshooting
• Provide security assistance during emergency, business continuity, and extreme weather events under guidance
• Help maintain documentation for security systems and processes
• Assist with data collection and analysis for physical security program planning

 

Technical Development

 • Perform technical security assessments of facilities under supervision
• Learn to operate and maintain various security technologies and systems
• Research emerging security technologies and assist with evaluation processes
• Participate in training programs and professional development opportunities

 

Highly Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in security, criminal justice, technology, or related field preferred
• 2 years of experience in physical security, law enforcement, military, or related field
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to facilities throughout NextEra Energy's service territories
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in team environments
• Demonstrated reliability, attention to detail, and professional demeanor

• Understanding of NERC CIP standards and regulatory compliance frameworks

Job Overview

Employees in this role are responsible for providing technical guidance and expertise concerning highly complex technical security functions including use of technical equipment in investigations, creation of Physical Security Plans (PSP), recommendation and evaluation of intrusion detection systems, CCTV surveillance system. Individuals ensure programs are designed to maximize asset protection and minimize asset loss during normal and emergency conditions.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works with Security Operations Systems Support and the Security Operations Center to test and troubleshoot alarm, access control devices and infrastructure to ensure system integrity
  • Develops company standards for installation and design of security system components
  • Conducts surveys of new and existing properties and prepares written recommendations for security systems
  • Manages suppliers projects and new installations throughout the company
  • Monitors and ensures full NERC CIP compliance relative to access control issues and certifies installations function correctly before turning system over to the responsible business unit
  • Serves as the company technical resource for NERC compliance and acts as the certifying authority for all physical security drawings in direct relation to NERC installations
  • Prepares written documentation on technical problems, incidents, front line investigative issues and other security related matters
  • Researches security industry solutions for more cost effective and reliable security systems
  • Manages budgets to include forecasting and business unit planning for other departments within the company in regards to security systems
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Grad / GED
  • Bachelor’s or Equivalent Experience
  • Experience: 3+ years
  • Valid Driver's License (NON CDL)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s - Business Administration
