The Distributed Generation (“DG”) team offers to customers a full suite of Distributed Energy Resources, including solar PV, energy storage, EV charging infrastructure, fleet electrification, onsite gas generation, microgrids, and water reclamation. DG’s C&I Team covers the Commercial & Industrial (“C&I”) market and leverages our products and services to help those companies meet their renewable energy and sustainability goals. As increasing numbers of C&Is set aggressive ESG goals, the opportunity for growth and the importance of this sector and this specific role for DG continues to grow.


The Manager C&I Business Development will support DG’s mission by originating and securing project opportunities in the C&I sector. In this highly customer-focused position, you will develop and manage substantive long-term relationships, and gain a deep understanding of customer needs and the market as a whole. At the same time, you will oversee the internal activities required to ensure our success at the project level, and you will also collaborate with colleagues across the broader organization to manage customers strategically and provide them with maximum value.

Role

  • Self-motivation and a strong work ethic
  • Outstanding communication skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with at least one (preferably more) of the following: DG solar or storage, EVs, CHP, fuel cells, natural gas, other onsite generation or water treatment
  • Experience selling to C&Is is highly preferred; strong existing C&I relationships are a plus
  • Willingness to travel

Job Overview

The goal of the DG C&I team is to drive long-term growth in NextEra’s distributed generation business by developing and fostering relationships from internal and external channels, identifying new opportunities, and fostering these opportunities through NextEra’s origination and development process. Employees in this role work creatively and collaboratively with both our customers and our internal stakeholders to  to integrate the sales team in newly defined opportunities as well as identifying and fostering collaborative relationships across the enterprise to further opportunities in newly defined spaces.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Identifies distributed generation opportunities via internal channels
  • Develops direct relationships with C&Is and external channel partners
  • Leverages these relationships to identify and qualify new opportunities for the DG organization across a range of DG technologies, system sizes and geographies across the US
  • Acts at the internal “voice of the customer” to foster opportunities through the origination process and ensure that our sales and support teams are providing a quality product that meets/exceeds customer expectations
  • Manages the customer experience with DG to improve the likelihood of success in converting initial customer discussions into proposals into awarded projects
  • Acts as the face of DG externally at conferences and customer visits, and internally with a wide range of other stakeholder groups
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience: 5+ years energy/business development experience
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • DG solar or storage, EVs, CHP, fuel cells, natural gas, other onsite generation or water treatment business development experience
  • Direct C&I sales experience
  • MBA or relevant master’s degree
