Position Specific Description

Employees in this role oversee the marketing efforts for a broad portfolio of products/programs that may include direct accountability for delivering annual sales or enrollment goals. Employees exercise high levels of decision-making and budget authority and present program KPIs regularly at the executive or senior leadership level. Employees perform at a leadership level with direct reports, providing coaching and direction to project team(s) and/or individual contributors, and leading cross-functional collaboration among internal and external marketing and program managers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define product strategies and lead go-to-market plans for new offerings.
  • Guide and influence a defined group of individual contributors or subject matter experts (SMEs), often leading cross-functional teams to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Manage team and budgets and ensure financial accountability.
  • Supervise and mentor direct reports, providing coaching, feedback, and career development support.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key business stakeholders at all levels, ensuring alignment, collaboration, and strategic support across the organization.
  • Operate independently with broad discretion and minimal supervision; make sound decisions that impact day-to-day operations.
  • Shape team priorities and recommend initiatives that directly contribute to organizational goals.
  • Exercise expert judgment to solve complex problems and drive innovation within the function.
  • Support the execution of strategic plans and play a key role in organizational decision-making.
  • Consistently apply policies, procedures, and business plans to guide decisions and actions.
  • Provide thought leadership within the discipline, leveraging deep subject matter expertise.

Job Overview

Employees in this role are responsible for leading the strategic marketing and communications support of a business unit, a significant department within a business unit, or issues of significant strategic importance to the company, or holds responsibilities involving high visibility and a high degree of risk (i.e., lead media spokesperson).

Job Duties & Responsibilities


•   Directs activities of other staff members and conducts performance appraisals
•   Demonstrates a high degree of initiative and independence in assessing and diagnosing communication needs
•   Devises communication solutions that further the business objectives and taking a hands-on approach to ensuring their successful implementation
•   Performs problem solving and significant decision-making, and managing vendor, alliance partner and cross-functional relationships to meet business goals
•   Delivers strategic communication planning, message development, writing, using research and analytics to drive planning and messaging, following and improving upon established processes
•   Delivers strong project leadership and management
•   Demonstrates expertise in the development and disciplined execution of strategic communication plans and using research and audience insight to develop key messages
•   Builds and maintains great relationships with clients and co-workers and communicating effectively with them, using quantifiable metrics to track performance and progress
