Position Specific Description

This position leads the technical delivery and evolution of data product development within the Enterprise Data Office. The role provides leadership to a team of Technical Leads and Software/Data Engineers responsible for solving complex data challenges and delivering trusted, scalable data products across the enterprise.

The ideal candidate brings a strong data and software engineering background and is comfortable being hands-on when needed—working through complex technical problems and helping teams move quickly from a business need to a production solution. The role will help drive development across Databricks and Redshift while preparing the organization to leverage an evolving technology ecosystem that includes GCP and Microsoft Fabric.

This leader will also partner closely with Product Management, Data Science, Platform and Tooling teams to evolve how data products are built—increasing automation, establishing reusable development patterns, reducing reliance on external vendors, and expanding the capabilities the Enterprise Data Office can provide to the business.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership, technical direction and day-to-day management for Technical Leads and Software/Data Engineers responsible for enterprise data product development
  • Brings strong data engineering and architecture experience to help teams solve complex data problems and translate business needs into scalable, production-ready solutions
  • Establishes and drives technical standards, architecture patterns and engineering practices across the data product portfolio
  • Leads development across modern enterprise data platforms, including Databricks and Redshift, while helping evaluate and prepare for emerging capabilities across GCP, Microsoft Fabric and other technologies
  • Partners closely with Product Managers and Data Scientists to create integrated product teams that combine business context, engineering, analytics and data science to deliver higher-value capabilities
  • Mobilizes internal engineering talent to increase development capacity, accelerate delivery and reduce reliance on external vendors
  • Works closely with Platform and Tooling teams to automate the data product development lifecycle and ensure product teams take advantage of reusable services, frameworks, AI-assisted development and emerging engineering capabilities
  • Drives a strong engineering culture focused on reusable patterns, automation, scalability, quality and speed rather than solving each data product independently
  • Evolves the capabilities of the Data Product Development organization beyond traditional data pipelines and data movement into advanced analytics, intelligent data products, APIs, applications, decision intelligence and other emerging capabilities
  • Serves as a technical partner to Product leadership, helping shape product direction, evaluate technology choices and identify opportunities where new capabilities can create business value
  • Provides technical leadership on high-complexity initiatives and is willing to engage directly with teams to troubleshoot, architect and unblock difficult engineering challenges
  • Establishes technology roadmaps that align data product development capabilities with current and future enterprise needs
  • Manages third-party technical and outsourcing relationships while intentionally building internal capability and reducing long-term dependency on external resources
  • Attracts, develops and retains a high-performing engineering organization, including developing Technical Leads and creating a strong pipeline of future technical leaders
  • Ensures solutions meet enterprise expectations for reliability, performance, security, governance and operational support
  • Partners across the Enterprise Data Office to continuously improve how data products are designed, developed, deployed and operated

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong background in data engineering, software engineering, data architecture or related technical disciplines
  • Experience leading engineers and/or Technical Leads responsible for complex enterprise data solutions
  • Experience with Databricks, Redshift or comparable modern cloud data platforms
  • Experience designing scalable data pipelines, data products and modern data architectures
  • Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS, GCP and/or Azure
  • Experience with software engineering, DevOps, CI/CD, automation and modern development practices
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex business problems into pragmatic technical solutions
  • Experience building internal engineering capabilities and effectively balancing employees, contractors and strategic partners
  • Ability to operate across Product Management, Data Science, Engineering, Architecture and Platform organizations
  • Strong technical curiosity with the ability to evaluate and introduce emerging technologies and development approaches
