Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy seeks an industry-leading Master Security Architect to direct and elevate our cybersecurity architecture practice. This role provides a premier opportunity for seasoned IT leaders looking to drive comprehensive enterprise-wide security designs, provide substantial IT architecture consultation, and directly lead a high-performing team of security architects. As a Master Architect specializing in cybersecurity, you will serve as both a principal visionary and a people leader. You will strengthen NextEra's cybersecurity posture, make strategic decisions regarding emerging technologies, and solve complex problems through innovative solutions.

In this role, you will lead, manage, and mentor a dedicated team of security architects. You will be responsible for translating business and technical requirements into secure enterprise-wide blueprints, establishing architectural standards, and guiding your team's day-to-day execution to ensure the compliance, scalability, and effectiveness of NextEra Energy's technology architectures.

 

In this role, consistent learning and adaptation is key. You will be called upon to continually expand and apply your knowledge in several IT disciplines, including, but not limited to:

  • Network Security
  • Proficiency in security infrastructure such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems
  • Understanding of networking protocols and components
  • Cloud Security
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP
  • Knowledge of cloud-native security tools
  • Endpoint Security
  • Capabilities in EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) tools
  • Understanding of anti-malware, antivirus, and encryption tools
  • Application Security
  • Familiarity with secure coding practices
  • Experience in performing security reviews, threat modelling of applications
  • Data Security
  • Knowledge of data encryption methods and tools
  • Understanding of Data Loss Prevention (DLP) tools and strategies
  • Identity and Access Management (IAM)
  • Familiarity with single sign-on (SSO) and multi-factor authentication (MFA) systems
  • Expertise in IAM directories like Active Directory or Entra ID
  • Understanding of Identity Management, Role Modeling, and Privilege Access Management
  • Mobile Security
  • Experience with Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions
  • Familiarity with mobile platform security features and settings
  • Information Risk and Governance
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and controls like NIST, CIS, CIP, ISO, and SOX.
  • Experience with risk assessment methods and tools
  • Operational Technology (OT) Security
  • Knowledge of OT architecture and communication protocols
  • Familiarity with OT-focused attack vectors

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Directly lead, manage, and support a team of security architects. Establish clear performance goals, conduct reviews, allocate resources across active projects, and foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation.
  • Oversee the development of secure enterprise architecture blueprints, reference architectures, and security patterns. Direct your team in aligning these designs with business strategies and emerging threat landscapes.
  • Partner with senior business and technology stakeholders to analyze industry trends, define secure requirements, and guide high-impact technology investment decisions.
  • Stay updated on industry technology trends, driving the adoption of modern, secure, and emerging technologies to support the company's clean energy and business goals.
  • Guide the team in designing high-level, secure migration strategies to transition legacy systems to future-proof architectures.
  • Define and manage enterprise security architecture governance, assurance, and standards activities to ensure organizational compliance with regulatory requirements (such as NERC CIP, SOX, and NIST).
  • Oversee risk assessment processes, and analyze the selection and design of hardware, software, and cloud technologies to maintain standard security configurations.
  • Undertake other leadership and technical duties as assigned.

 

The Ideal Candidate Would Have The Following:

  • A Bachelor's degree in computer science, system analysis, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Background in working with diverse technical configurations, technologies, and processing environments.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works with business partners to analyze strategy and trends to define the requirements, principles, and models that guide technology decisions
  • Communicates and enforces technology standards with business partners
  • Understands industry trends and the practical application of existing, new, and emerging technologies
  • Drives digital innovation and develops roadmaps through new technologies and approaches to fulfill strategic business plans
  • Defines high-level migration plans to address gaps in current state
  • Coaches, mentors, and leads technical subject matters experts to enable and drive consistency across technology architectures
  • Designs and owns governance, assurance and standards activities for enterprise technology architecture compliance
  • Oversees and facilitates the evaluation, risk assessment, selection, and design of hardware and software technology and product standards
  • Delivers technology architecture artifacts, possibly including reference architectures or concepts of operation
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Grad / GED
  • Bachelor’s or Equivalent Experience
  • Experience: 8+ years
