Position Specific Description

This position is within the corporate Environmental Services Department of NextEra Energy (NEE). 


The successful applicant will be responsible for managing and operating all aspects of FPL’s Everglades Mitigation Bank, including credit sales, budget, contracts, monitoring and advising on policy developments that could impact the Bank, conducting field work, ensuring permit compliance, developing permitting strategies for existing and future phases of the Bank, and writing and obtaining federal, state, and local permits to execute permitting strategies. The successful applicant will also be responsible for developing a statewide (Florida) mitigation strategy for new projects. In addition, the successful applicant will be capable of providing Clean Water Act (and associated or similar state or local programs) project management and permitting support for other NextEra Energy projects.   


The applicant must have the ability to independently manage the Bank and other assigned projects. The applicant also must be able to draft permit applications, work with permitting agencies, and obtain permits and Mitigation Banking Instruments primarily without consultant support. The applicant must be able to independently prepare permit-required reports.  

 

The applicant must maintain current knowledge of pertinent national, state and local environmental policies and regulations, have the ability to effectively interface with internal and external customers, regulators, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders, and be able to lead resolution of complex environmental matters.  The applicant must help ensure NEE compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations, as well as company policies. 


The job is located in Juno Beach, Florida.  Occasional travel, with overnight stays, will be required.

 

Required Qualifications:
•    Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Environmental Science or Engineering), Master’s preferred 
•    Minimum of six years of relevant experience
•    Advanced knowledge of environmental regulations, especially Clean Water Act and other water-related regulatory frameworks
•    Advanced oral and written communication skills as well as analysis, problem solving, compliance, leadership, and process/project management skills
•    Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

 

Primary Responsibilities Include: (List is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary)
•    Manage and operate all aspects of the Everglades Mitigation Bank
•    Independently permit Bank projects or other NextEra Energy projects
•    Act as primary interface with Bank customers 
•    Provide leadership to develop strategy and help solve complex environmental matters through expertise and knowledge of environmental laws and regulations 
•    Communicate deficiencies, risks, and corrective actions to management 
•    Perform other job-related duties as assigned
•    Ability to work extended hours and be available for on-call support
