Position Specific Description

This role will help support a growing legal team’s core operational responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be analytical, organized, communicative, ready to grow, and comfortable working in an ambiguous, quickly-changing environment.

 

In this role you will:

  • Design and establish a vendor management structure within the legal organization that will identify areas of improvement for legal workflows and processes, and propose and implement controls
  • Identify and implement legal department tools to streamline the capture and reporting of cost and performance data  
  • Organize and act as a knowledge hub for external counsel engagements and support the negotiation of rates and terms where needed in conjunction with supply chain
  • Manage legal budgeting and billing, including creating and maintaining legal billing guidelines for external counsel and other legal team vendors
  • Lead the annual review of cost and efficiency through the velocity process
  • Stay abreast of latest legal technology developments and assess capabilities of solutions relevant to areas such as contract management, content management, IP management, policy management, business process management, e-signature, board management, e-discovery, compliance management, and subsidiary management
  • Develop, implement and iterate on appropriate cost and performance metrics and benchmarking through data analytics to measure the Legal Team’s performance and efficiency
  • Help Legal leadership develop personnel management processes, such as attorney onboarding, training and staffing processes to realize organizational efficiencies
  • Lead or support additional projects as needed, potentially including the ongoing ownership of longer term programs

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of relevant experience managing vendor procurement and/or the budget of either a corporate legal department or corporate business unit
  • Experience with delivering cross functional projects
  • Experience defining program requirements and using data and metrics to determine improvements
  • Experience developing and maintaining outside counsel billing programs
  • Possess a practical, business-oriented approach to problem-solving and be able to effectively advise internal business partners by providing them with clear and practical advice
  • Self-starter who operates autonomously while being a collaborative team player
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to simultaneously manage several projects
  • Proven ability to proactively, efficiently, and accurately assess legal business risks in a fast-paced environment
  • Track record of creative problem-solving, excellent written and oral communication skills, and creation of strong and trusted cross-functional relationships
  • Significant experience in technology change management, project management, business process management, and system implementation

 

Proficiency in the use and implementation of e-billing, vendor contract management software, knowledge management, and electronic signature tools

Job Overview

Employees in this role manage the execution of the corporate and business unit processes in compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate policies and procedures relating to financial controllership. Employees in this role oversee the preparation of operational analyses, including analysis of operational effectiveness  and makes recommendations for improvement.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Identifies and recommends changes to day-to-day financial routines and processes to enhance the accuracy of accounting/financial data and/or efficiency/productivity of the department
  • Manages annual budget preparation, monthly reporting, forecasting, cash flow, financial analysis, month-end close activities, accuracy of financial information and compliance
  • Coordinates and communicates with internal customers and corporate business units
  • Drives optimal business decisions and leads multiple direct reports
  • Analyzes monthly financial results, perform actual versus budget variance analysis, develop contingency action plans
  • Manages Monthly Operating Performance Report (MOPR) process, cash forecast, headcount reconciliation, capital forecasts and manages financial and operational dashboards
  • Prepares financial reports to reflect financial status in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Ensures accounting integrity of corporate financial data and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Equivalent Experience
  • Experience: 10+ years
  • Supervisor/Management Experience: 2+ years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's - Business Administration
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
