Position Specific Description

The Director, Transmission Business Management will participate in regional internal interconnection feasibility studies and network upgrade cost estimate activities through the full life cycle of development and construction of projects leading to the successful execution of new asset growth across the respective region. As the experienced regional technical team member, the position is required to work with internal project developers/originators, and external entities including Regional Transmission Organization (RTO), Independent Systems Operators (ISO), Transmission Providers (TP), and Transmission Owners (TO) to review and evaluate interconnection standards and study practices, transmission siting feasibility, system impact studies, facility studies, and Large Generator Interconnection Agreement (LGIA).


Overall, this role is responsible for assisting NEER’s Development to determine optimal locations for the placement of renewable energy projects, verifying and challenging interconnection studies results, and negotiating to reach reasonable resolutions with ISOs and Transmission Providers.

Job Overview

This position supports the development and operation of renewable energy generation and storage facilities by supplying solutions for technical transmission issues. Employees in this role work with internal cross-functional teams from Business Management, Marketing and Origination, and renewable energy storage development teams in performing analyses. This position collaborates with RTO planning and operation teams, utilities, transmission owners, balancing authorities to identify opportunities to deliver benefits for the company by tackling some of the most challenging technical and economic issues in the power systems operations while seizing opportunities to drive additional value out of the installed resources base.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Drives in-house interconnection feasibility studies of new potential renewable resources through collaboration with Power Marketing and Business Management teams
  • Disseminates analyses and findings to the development management team
  • Optimizes existing portfolio of renewable resources by identifying regional operational constraints and limitations
  • Devises innovative solutions to minimize the outage impact by working with Business Management, Transmission Service team, RTO, and Transmission Owners
  • Guides technical analyses and modeling to further the company's business position in the renewable business
  • Participates in the RTO transmission planning and operation planning processes
  • Directs power systems, market simulations and analyses to influence RTO transmission expansion plan to meet the technical challenges with the increasing high renewable resource penetration
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

  • Experience: 6+ years
  • Supervisor/Management Experience: 3+ years
