Position Specific Description

 Lead the power trading desk and natural gas operations team. The power trading team includes term, bal-month & real-time power traders responsible for reliability purchases and asset optimization transactions.  Provide southeast power market intelligence to FPL leadership.  Provide asset optimization trade guidelines and consult with wholesale power origination team on long term opportunities.  Lead the natural gas operations team which includes the portfolio management team establishing daily gas procurement strategy as well as the gas scheduling team. Approve or deny releases of natural gas transport and natural gas storage capacity to Gas Trading team.   Represent FPL with the natural gas pipelines in operational engagements.  Represent EMT at NextEra Energy's Exposure Management Committee meetings.

Job Overview

This job is responsible for managing a group of individuals involved in power, gas, or fuel oil trading, fuel management, and/or the scheduling activities of the company's natural gas and fuel oil transportation alternatives.  Employees in the role are responsibile for energy sales and purchases in the short-term and mid-term markets.  Employees in this role are responsible for optimization activities related to power, gas, and/or fuel oil.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversees and executes transactions associated with procurement and optimization activities related to power, gas, and/or fuel oil
  • Provides interface with System Operations, Power Generation, and pipeline operators on a daily basis
  • Develops procurement strategies to deliver reliability and fuel cost minimization
  • Develops optimization strategies to maximize profitability
  • Develops and maintains systems and procedures to ensure accurate and efficient operations
  • Directs activities of a larger group during critical events
  • Works extended hours, as necessary
  • Meets storm duty requirements
  • Develops, maintains, and enhances cyber resiliency plan to ensure uninterrupted operations
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Grad / GED
  • Bachelor's or Equivalent Experience
  • Experience: 9+ years
  • Leadership Experience: 3+ years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree
