Position Specific Description

The Opportunity

We're seeking a Director of Strategic Initiatives & Portfolio Management to lead idea generation, business case development, and strategic investment decisions across NextEra Energy's 30+ business units. This role will identify high-impact opportunities, build compelling business cases, manage portfolio budgets, and deliver executive-level recommendations that drive strategic resource allocation.

 

Drive Idea Generation & Strategic Discovery

  • Lead ideation processes across business units to surface opportunities for process improvement, technology enablement, and operational excellence
  • Conduct stakeholder engagement sessions to identify pain points, bottlenecks, and untapped value creation opportunities
  • Assess market trends, emerging technologies, and industry best practices to inform NextEra Energy's strategic roadmap
  • Build relationships with business leaders to maintain a pipeline of strategic initiatives Develop Business Cases & Use Case Analysis
  • Build comprehensive business cases including ROI analysis, cost-benefit modeling, risk assessment, and value realization frameworks
  • Define clear success metrics, KPIs, and value tracking mechanisms for proposed initiatives
  • Evaluate feasibility, resource requirements, and strategic fit for potential projects
  • Partner with Finance, IT, and Operations to validate assumptions and ensure financial rigor

Manage Portfolio Budget & Investment Prioritization

  • Manage EPMO portfolio budget process, ensuring resources align with strategic priorities
  • Develop and maintain prioritization frameworks that balance short-term wins with long-term transformation goals
  • Create portfolio dashboards providing executive visibility into investment performance, value delivery, and resource utilization
  • Facilitate executive steering committee reviews to secure approvals and funding commitments

Deliver Executive Communications & Strategic Recommendations

  • Prepare executive presentations,  and strategic recommendations for C-suite
  • Translate complex analyses into clear, compelling narratives that drive decision-making
  • Lead executive steering committee meetings to review portfolio performance
  • Develop communication strategies to build momentum and executive sponsorship for high-priority initiatives

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or related field
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in strategy, business development, or portfolio management
  • Strong financial acumen with expertise, NPV analysis, and business case development
  • Exceptional executive presence with ability to influence leaders and drive strategic decisions
  • Proven ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable recommendations

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or Master's degree in Finance, Business, or related field
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification
  • PMP or similar project management certification

Job Overview

This position is responsible for using business management consulting skills to work with internal clients through all stages of strategy-based transformation engagements.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Providing thought leadership and execution support on client assignments to craft strategy and then refocus an organization on making that strategy a reality
  • Consulting with clients to identify, clarify, and solve problems critical to clients' strategic and operating success by developing insight, conducting independent analysis, and working with clients to assure assignment progress
  • Developing conclusions and recommendations, writing reports, assisting in client presentations and providing implementation assistance as required
  • Presenting to senior executives • Constructing the analytical framework and work steps for each assignment, and leading the problem solving associated
  • Conducting both client and market development to grow the business
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience: 10+ years
  • Supervisor/Management Experience: 4+ years
