Position Specific Description

At NextEra Energy, our people are our greatest asset and our Generation Analytics team is seeking a Technical Solution Architect to help take us to the Next Era. In this role you will develop and maintain high-level designs for logical and technical architecture in the Power Generation business space.  You will provide leadership, strategic decision-making, and guidance within technical disciplines, responding to disruptive technologies and solving unique and complex problems. You will also facilitate and orchestrate the delivery of targeted business outcomes through technical decisions as well as serve as top-level experts and visionaries in the development of roadmaps, strategy, and design related to the Power Generation domain.

 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using NoSQL and SQL AWS ‘big data’ technologies (Dynamo, Kinesis, S3, HIVE/Spark).
  • Build analytics tools that utilize big data pipeline to provide actionable insights (HiveMQ, Kafka, Cassandra, S3, Redshift)
  • Work with business partners to analyze strategy and trends to define the requirements, principles, and models that guide technology decisions
  • Communicate and enforce technology standards with business partners
  • Managing and leading a team (on-site and off-shore)
  • Lead and/or participates in project pipeline builds, automation, CI/CD and functional/performance testing.
  • Understand industry trends and the practical application of existing, new, and emerging technologies
  • Drive digital innovation and develop roadmaps through new technologies and approaches to fulfill strategic business plans
  • Define high-level migration plans to address gaps in current state
  • Coach, mentor, and lead technical subject matters experts to enable and drive consistency across technology architectures
  • Design and own governance, assurance, and standards activities for enterprise technology architecture compliance
  • Oversee and facilitate the evaluation, risk assessment, selection, and design of hardware and software technology and product standards
  • Deliver technology architecture artifacts, possibly including reference architectures or concepts of operation

 

Highly Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with edge technologies and protocols; SCADA, OPC, Modbus etc.  
  • Experience with big data tools:, Spark, Kafka, etc.
  • Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with AWS cloud services: SQS, SNS, EC2, EMR, RDS, Redshift, Athena, Lambda, etc.
  • Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, Scala, etc.
  • AWS hands on experience and AWS cloud architect or big data certification a plus
  • Experience with implementing disruptive technologies in an organization
  • Complex & high volume cloud implementations
  • Utility Knowledge &/or Expertise
  • Experience in a start-up&/or entrepreneurial venture
  • Passion for technology &/or domains
  • Innovations / Patent examples
  • Technically multi-faceted (web development, network, distributed databases, big data, mobility, etc...)

Job Overview

This position guides a group of teams in the execution of agile initiatives to deliver customer value. Employees in this role train and coach in the use of Scrum, Lean, Kanban, XP, and scale agile framework practices. Leaders in this job manage employees and assume budget responsibilities as assigned.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Trains and coaches leaders, teams, Product Owners, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindset           
  • Contributes in Communities of Practice (CoP), within the agile network
  • Promotes and encourages collaboration and transparency and builds trusting relationships between business, delivery, and other entities within the organization                                                                              
  • Facilitates periodic synchronization meetings across several different onsite and distributed delivery teams
  • Prepares program and release backlogs, as well as team and program objectives
  • Manages risk and dependencies, communicates and escalates impediments to facilitate transparency, and reduces bottlenecks
  • Embraces a continuous improvement mindset, and drives the use of agile engineering best practices and innovation
  • Reports on standardized program-level metrics, and understands, tracks, and operates within the program budget
  • Plays an instrumental role in the organization’s Agile transformation, acts as a change agent, and shows strong leadership skills with a positive and collaborative attitude
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Grad / GED
  • Bachelor’s or Equivalent Experience
  • Experience: 8+ years
  • Supervisor/Management Experience: 2+ years
