Position Specific Description

This position is responsible for developing algorithms, modeling techniques, and optimization methods to extract insight from the data to help NextEra and FPL business make smarter decisions. Insights target Equipment Lifecycle management, predictive maintenance, maximizing revenue, early equipment failure detection, and entity & risk rating, customer sensitivity and Power Purchase Agreement analysis to name a few. Employees in this role use knowledge of machine learning, optimization, statistics, and applied mathematics along with abilities in software engineering with a focus on distributed computing and “Big Data”. Candidates with the following experience will be highly considered:  

  • Developing data models and algorithms best suited to a particular scenario  

  • A self-starter with high bias for action   

  • Assessing the effectiveness of data models  

  • Using different data gathering techniques  

  • Keep up to date with the latest technology trends  

  • Develop processes and/or tools to monitor model performance and accuracy  

  • Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis  

  • The ability to partner with business processes to identify focus areas and improvement opportunities  

  • Establishing and managing effective customer relationships with all business partners  

  • Building strong knowledge of the technical solution being delivered, and analyzing and determining failure points 

  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services  

  • Familiarity with Python, Numpy, Pandas, Scikit-Learn, and ML Frameworks (Tensorflow, PyTorch)  

  • Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis  

  • Familiarity with Machine Learning and Deep learning techniques  

  • Familiarity with Computer Vision is desired  

  • Familiarity with Natural Language Processing is desired  

  • Doing ad-hoc analysis and presenting results in a clear manner  

  • Creating automated anomaly detection systems  

Job Overview

This position is responsible for developing algorithms, modeling techniques, and optimization methods that support many aspects of NextEra and FPL business. Employees in this role use knowledge of machine learning, optimization, statistics, and applied mathematics along with abilities in software engineering with a focus on distributed computing and data storage infrastructure (e.g. “Big Data”).

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops machine learning, optimization and other modeling solutions
  • Prepares comprehensive documented observations, analyses and interpretations of results including technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses
  • Works with a variety of datasets, including timeseries data and “big data” requiring analysis on distributed computing platforms
  • Writes software in R, Python or similar languages and contributes code to product development teams
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience: 3+ years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree
  • Doctoral Degree
