Position Specific Description

We’re looking for a strong communicator who has a passion for history. A blend of historian and storyteller, this communication specialist will be responsible for implementing planned and ongoing heritage initiatives and creating heritage experiences for employees. 

 

This teammate will work as part of a cross-functional team to accelerate the awareness, use and contributions to the NextEra Energy Archives, coordinating between key internal stakeholders, the NextEra Energy Historical Museum board and the company’s heritage agency to facilitate and lead implementation of heritage initiatives for NextEra Energy and its subsidiaries. Specifically, the communication specialist will be responsible for identifying opportunities to enhance the company’s archives and continue to build the collection. The teammate also will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic initiatives to promote interest in and engagement with the company’s archives. This teammate will be expected to demonstrate good project management and planning skills; work with initiative, creativity and independence; and develop and implement strategic projects to advance the goals of the NextEra Energy Historical Museum and other business objectives. 

 

Position Duties and Responsibilities:
The responsibilities are varied and complex and include frequent cross-functional interactions. The communication specialist will work at both corporate and business-unit levels and will interface with corporate leadership, business unit leadership, business process owners, the NextEra Energy Historical Museum leadership and external vendors. This position serves as a key contributor on the team in a broad range of activities, as assigned. 

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate between the historical museum board, internal departments, partners and our heritage agency to facilitate consensus and decision making about heritage programs.
  • Oversee and drive execution of heritage initiatives, including integration of heritage storytelling into existing programs.
  • Manage and develop the company’s historical archives, including responsibility for collecting physical and digital assets and working with our archival vendor to add appropriate assets to the collection.
  • Build awareness of heritage opportunities and tools among internal stakeholders, including advising users on how best to access, use and interpret NextEra Energy heritage content.
  • Work with business partners, the historical museum board and our archive partner to identify and fill gaps in the historical museum’s collection.
  • Foster collection of new materials as history happens each year to ensure valuable records and materials are safeguarded and retained.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the collection to promote the company’s history through storytelling in partnership with others in the marketing and communications team. 
  • Research, develop and implement a content strategy that demonstrates how the company’s rich history supports our success across a variety of digital channels.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding the company’s history from internal stakeholders.
  • Establish regular tracking and reporting protocols across departments to measure the impact of heritage activities.
  • Serve as liaison with company’s heritage partner, overseeing projects and budget.
  • Serve as a leader of NextEra Energy’s heritage employee resource group.
  • Follow established processes, demonstrating discipline and organization in executing assignments and plans.
  • Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Three or more years of relevant experience or equivalent required, preferably related to corporate communication, archival or heritage advocate work.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (journalism, communication, English, marketing, liberal arts, public relations, advertising, business, finance, political science, etc.) required.
  • Demonstrated interest in history, with archival skills a plus.
  • Excellent storyteller who has strong writing, verbal, editing, presentation and overall communication skills.
  • Expertise in the development and disciplined execution of strategic plans to achieve business goals and results.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage highly sensitive material in a confidential and secure manner.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects, deadlines and initiatives with minimal supervision.
  • Fundamental understanding of budget management.
  • Understanding of digital media and how to use these tools to convey message.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign) and Microsoft Excel proficiency a plus.
  • Ability to remain flexible and adaptable and demonstrate enthusiasm and passion for the business.
  • Talent for creative thinking and problem solving.
  • Ability to maintain high performance under pressure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
     

Job Overview
