Position Specific Description

Why this role matters

Florida Power & Light’s Energy Marketing & Trading (EMT) team is the commodities hub that helps keep power reliable and affordable for FPL’s 6M+ customer accounts. We source fuel for FPL’s fleet and grow value through wholesale power transactions with regional utilities. You’ll support senior originators and traders with fundamental research and analysis that directly influences new deals and long‑term customer value.

What you’ll do

You’ll be a force‑multiplier for the team—turning market data into actionable insights and helping us win and execute transactions.

  • Market fundamentals & competitive analysis. Benchmark utility/power/gas markets; analyze supply/demand, forward curves, and competitor positions; synthesize insights for deal strategy.
  • Deal support & pricing. Build and maintain financial pro formas (DCF, sensitivities), contribute to pricing and structuring for bilateral opportunities, and help prepare internal approvals.
  • Data wrangling & tools. Use Python/VBA (and SQL where helpful) to extract, clean, and summarize large datasets; automate recurring analyses and dashboards.
  • Decision support writing. Draft concise memos and exec‑ready summaries that capture the “so what” from complex analysis.
  • Leverage AI for research. Apply AI tools to accelerate industry research and insight generation—with sound source vetting.
  • Cross‑functional coordination. Partner with trading, risk, legal, and operations to move qualified opportunities from concept to execution while adhering to EMT risk procedures.
  • Learn our stack. Ramp on EMT models/workflows (e.g., production‑cost and portfolio analytics) and complete EMT new‑hire modules.

What you’ll bring (Must‑haves)

  • 1–5 years of post‑college analytical experience (energy, finance, consulting, data, or related)
  • Strong quantitative skills and Excel proficiency (financial modeling; DCF/sensitivity)
  • Exceptional written synthesis—turn analysis into crisp, decision‑ready narratives
  • Intellectual curiosity, bias for action, and comfort working in fast‑moving market contexts

Nice to have (Pluses, not prerequisites)

  • Exposure to power/gas markets, ISO/RTO constructs, or bilateral utility deals
  • Experience with market data (e.g., ICE/Platts), SQL, or dashboarding tools
  • Coding familiarity (Python and/or VBA) for data manipulation and repeatable analysis
