Position Specific Description

Responsible for understanding and applying Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission rules, practices, and regulatory principles in determining appropriate regulatory treatment and accounting for FPL’s cost recovery clauses.  This individual will be charged with making monthly accounting entries, preparing monthly variance reports, providing support during regulatory cost recovery clause proceedings, and direct interaction with FPSC auditors on clause audits. Periodically supports ad hoc analysis and  strategic initiatives.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

 

  • Responsible for understanding and accurately applying Florida Public Service Commission and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission specific rules and regulatory principles in determining proper regulatory treatment of FPL’s cost recovery clauses.
  • Interact with and provide guidance to various departments within FPL to ensure amounts recorded in the cost recovery clauses are appropriate, accurately reported, and support proper clause accounting decisions.
  • Responsible for the monthly preparation of journal entries related to over/under calculations of FPL’s retail cost recovery clauses and wholesale fuel adjustment clauses.
  • Responsible for monthly preparation of cost recovery clause variance reporting.
  • Preparation of over/under cost recovery schedules to be included in annual cost recovery clause filings with the FPSC.
  • Responsible for coordination and/or preparation of responses to discovery posed by the FPSC and parties that have been granted intervention to cost recovery clause proceedings.
  • Maintain monthly and year-end close and financial reporting checklists to ensure accurate, timely completion of all close and filing related activities.
  • Prepare Account Reconciliations for Clause accounts before month end.
  • Interface with Deloitte and Internal Auditors on all monthly clause true-up calculations, journal entry or reconciliation related issues.
  • Recommend and ensure proper accounting treatment for recoverable costs and other transactions in accordance with GAAP, FERC, and FPSC guidelines throughout the financial reporting process.
  • Assist in docket related activities on an as needed basis.
  • Maintain and update all cost recovery accounting control procedures and SOX to ensure compliance.
  • Identify, design, and support AI agent solutions, automation tools, workflows, and process improvement initiatives that enhance the efficiency, accuracy, repeatability, and sustainability of regulatory accounting activities.

 

Highly Preferred Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA certificate 
  • Minimum of 2-3 years accounting or finance experience
  • Public Utility experience 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with AI tools, automation platforms, process improvement, or workflow design preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage technology, including AI-enabled tools and automation, to improve processes, reporting, and analysis

Employees in this role supports Senior Management decision making via financial modeling, including but not limited to, revenue requirement and customer bill impacts, discounted cash flow analysis and financial statement modeling.  This position identifies and conducts moderately complex analyses of financial impacts of issues and/or decisions facing the company and proposes strategies to maximize financial performance of company.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

•   Identifies, analyzes, and communicates to management the impact on the Company's financial structure, profitability, financial integrity, and competitive position utilizing relevant analytical methods and/or department’s forecasting models
•   Provides financial analysis support for various projects, calculating revenue requirements, net present value, customer bill impact, etc.
•   Provides expertise, support, and financial training for the company departments requiring these services
•   Performs financial analyses as required by management or regulatory bodies
•   Prepares PowerPoint presentations to be provided to Senior and Executive Management 
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

•  High School Grad / GED
•  Bachelor's or Equivalent Experience
•  Experience: 2+ years

Preferred Qualifications

•  Bachelor's - Accounting / Finance
