Position Specific Description

They are helping shape our company and how our customers see us.  With eight nuclear reactors at five plant sites around the country, today, FPL’s nuclear fleet is one of the largest in the nation. Currently, we are seeking a Nuclear Principal Electrical Engineer to join our team at our St. Lucie Nuclear Plant. The site is located on the Treasure Coast in Jensen Beach, FL  and generates enough power to supply the annual needs of more than 1 million homes.

  • Areas of responsibility and duties:

  • Provides technical leadership and mentoring to Electrical Engineers
  • Lead Complex Troubleshooting and Failure Investigation Process (FIP) teams
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Provide technical expertise in development of technical specifications, procedures, and processes
  • Provides leadership and technical expertise for vendor suppliers
  • Acts as technical liaison to individuals within and outside the organization with responsibility to act independently regarding technical matters.
  • Respond as needed during off-hours as nuclear power generation business operates ‘around the clock’

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strongly preferred to have knowledge and experience in troubleshooting, design, testing and repair techniques of electrical distribution systems and their auxiliaries.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with at least eight years of experience working in a Commerical Nuclear Plant 

Job Overview

This job is responsible for developing technical recommendations to support complex nuclear projects and operations. Employees in this role perform advanced engineering activity and analysis that lead to the development of innovative concepts. Individuals participate in the development of new solutions involves the study of engineering principles, selection of areas for investigation, working through opportunities within scope, and communicating research findings. The successful candidate is responsible for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating assignments.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works independently to perform engineering tasks with little or no precedence
  • Provides technical consultation to management
  • Applies nuclear industry standards and regulations to solve new problems and address situations
  • Manages project teams toward solutions using leadership prowess, problem solving, and conflict resolution techniques
  • Represents supervisor interests and serves in a backup capacity when necessary
  • Serves as technical liaison within and outside business unit
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's - Engineering
  • Experience: 12+ years
  • Nuclear Experience: 8+ years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's - Engineering
  • Certified Professional Engineer (PE)
