Position Specific Description

This position is located at the CORE Facility at the Martin Plant site in Indiantown, Florida. Under limited guidance, this role provides technical leadership and training expertise in instrumentation and controls (I&C) systems supporting the Fossil Central Maintenance team.  The position develops, delivers, and sustains technical training for craft technicians, coaches on various plant systems, and related equipment.  This role serves as a training subject matter expert and partners with site leadership, maintenance teams, engineering, and operations to strengthen workforce capability and support safe, reliable plant performance.

 

Job Overview
Responsibilities include designing and delivering technical training, administering qualification programs and practical evaluations, supporting pre-hire assessments, maintaining training equipment and labs, and coaching employees in field.

 

The successful candidate will have strong working knowledge of power plant equipment, troubleshooting, technical drawings, and applicable safety requirements. The role also supports planned and emergent maintenance by identifying skill gaps, developing targeted training, and helping personnel resolve complex technical issues while meeting safety, environmental, quality, schedule, and cost objectives.

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop, deliver, and maintain classroom, laboratory, and hands-on training for instrumentation and controls technicians
  • Create and update lesson plans, practical exercises, job performance measures, examinations, training procedures, and qualification records
  • Conduct pre-hire technical assessments and practical evaluations
  • Coach and mentor employees in troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and safe work practices
  • Evaluate training effectiveness, identify skill gaps, and develop targeted learning plans to improve employee proficiency and job readiness
  • Maintain training labs, simulators, test equipment, tools and software
  • Partner with maintenance, engineering, operations, and site leadership to align training with plant needs, outage scope, equipment changes, and emerging technologies
  • Serve as subject matter expert supporting planned and emergent work across the fossil fleet
  • Promote a strong safety culture and compliance with environmental, quality, procedural, and regulatory requirements
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Five or more years of relevant power-generation maintenance experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of power plant systems, technical drawings, and troubleshooting practices
  • Ability to develop and deliver technical instruction to employees with varied experience levels
  • Effective written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of safety policies, procedures, and practices applicable to I&C maintenance
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as an instrumentation and controls trainer, instructor, or qualification evaluator
  • Hands-on experience with PLCs, distributed control systems, turbine or boiler controls, process analyzers, smart transmitters, control valves, and digital test equipment
  • Experience developing competency-based curricula, practical evaluations, or job performance measures
  • Power-generation or heavy-industrial maintenance experience
  • Relevant technical certification, associate degree, bachelor’s degree in instrumentation or electronics technology, or a related field

Individuals in this position lead internal and external resources to Deliver Certainty for assigned major maintenance activities or plant maintenance to achieve objectives for: safety, environmental, quality, schedule, and cost compliance.
