Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy’s affiliate, Gexa Energy, is seeking a Sr. Legal Assistant to support its legal team in Houston. This role will support the attorneys on the team with budgeting, expenses, procurement, time entry management and file management. The assistant will also assist in drafting agreements (including amendments, terminations, releases, and notices) and maintain organized records in document management systems. Duties also include assisting with settlements, responding to subpoenas and monitoring ongoing litigation and engaging outside counsel.

 

The role supports high‑volume work, including responding to attorney requests, monitoring the legal shared mailbox, maintaining logs and tracking deadlines and follow‑up actions. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, comfortable managing multiple time‑sensitive matters, and experienced working in a fast‑paced, high volume, regulated environment. The position reports directly to the Managing Counsel.

Job Duties & Responsibilities


•   Assists in case preparation including basic legal research, file maintenance and transaction management and closings
•   Drafts documents and correspondence
•   Maintains legal calendar and schedules all legal proceedings and negotiations
•   Mentors and coordinates work activities for junior employees
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned
