Position Specific Description

Gexa Energy is searching for a Senior Load Forecasting Analyst to join its Supply and Load Forecasting team located in the Gexa Energy office in Houston.  The Senior Load Forecasting Analyst will model portfolio load flex under different weather scenarios, run short-term and long-term load forecasts, report on forecast performance, and identify and correct problems causing load forecast errors outside of the target range.  Gexa is seeking candidates with strong analytical and technical skills, and excellent problem-solving skills. 

 

Preferred qualifications are as follows:

  • Candidates with Retail Power Industry Experience highly preferred
  • Experience performing analyses on large data sets                                            
  • Advanced SQL coding skills with significant SQL knowledge
  • Ability to automate reports and processes
  • Excellent MS Excel skills and experience with VBA                                                     
  • Experience with regression analysis                                           
  • Experience structuring and leading projects, working with cross-functional teams
  • Experience in software packages like Python and R           

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Model portfolio usage under various weather conditions and compute potential exposure during extreme weather events
  • Research and propose new data sources and methods of analysis
  • Analyze accuracy and effectiveness of load profiles and recommend improvements
  • Identify causes for load forecast errors outside of the target range and develop solutions to improve performance
  • Develop and prepare long-term and/or short-term forecasting models
  • Monitor and analyze load forecast accuracy, create transparency into drivers causing load forecast errors, and perform load forecast variance reporting
  • Handle varied and complex projects and analysis
  • Prepare presentations and report for management
  • Identify and correct customers with significant load forecasting anomalies
  • Lead efforts to review and validate data inputs into the long-term forecasting model and work with cross-functional teams to correct data errors in source systems
  • Support automation efforts to import all data into load forecasting system
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

 

Job Overview

Employees in this role develop models, price energy derivatives, design and perform quantitative studies and analyses of spot/forward prices and volatilities for making pricing, trading, and risk management decisions. This position assists in the development of core algorithms and models to support trading, origination, and asset optimization decisions.

  • Develops and improves upon mathematical models and translates algorithms into code
  • Assists development of energy price forecast, forward curve, and volatility models
  • Designs and constructs risk management tools used in evaluating company's risk profile and exposure levels
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
