Position Specific Description

The NextEra Energy Gas Infrastructure team is seeking a Surface Lead Landman with experience in South Texas horizontal drilling operations who can manage multiple projects in a fast paced, team-oriented environment. The Surface Lead Landman will be responsible for management of Surface E&P operations including keeping up with rig moves (multi-rig program), negotiation and acquisition of surface damages, water rights and pipeline and facility acreage ROWs. The Surface Lead Landman will be expected to dedicate most of the time out of the field office near Dilley, Texas, and will be responsible for dealing directly with in-house Asset and engineering teams located in Houston, Texas as well as field operations and production team.

 

The Surface Lead Landman individual will be responsible for the following:

  • Coordinate and direct surface land activities in a multi-rig drilling program, including directing surveyors in well pad and pipeline staking, directing land brokers in negotiations, and coordinating ongoing surface activities per the company’s operations.
  • Negotiate surface use agreements, road agreements, water easements, pipeline rights-of-way and other agreements as needed.
  • Develop relationships with local landowners, attorneys, City and County officials with the highest degree of professionalism and integrity.
  • Provide asset, land, and engineering teams with status reports and progress of land acquisitions, including meeting budget needs for each project.
  • Understand project regulatory issues and familiarity with the Texas Railroad Commission and other Texas regulatory agencies - Texas experience required.
  • Ensure compliance with all surface agreements and regulatory guidelines relative to the upstream and midstream operations.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and lead a team of land brokers daily.
  • Support drilling, completions, production, and commercial teams as needed.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Land Manager.
  • South Texas experience preferred.

 

Excellent verbal/written communication, organization, and time management skills.

Minimum of 10 years of Texas surface related experience handling extensive surface operations in a high paced environment with minimal supervision.

 

Job Overview

This job is responsible for providing knowledge, research and coordination of land issues dealing with drilling and operations in the asset’s and/or company’s focus areas. Employees in this role procure and manage the company’s mineral and leasehold interests for an assigned geographical area by obtaining the legal right to drill oil and gas wells on a specific property.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Verifies ownership of property where the company seeks to explore for oil and gas
  • Negotiates the purchase of oil and gas leases, or assignments of oil and gas leases
  • Researches and reports the company’s ownership position, competitor activity, potential legal issues, or other matters for the purpose of decision making and strategic planning
  • Coordinates and communicates with representatives from internal departments
  • Ensures the appropriate steps are taken to meet the company drilling goals and deadlines
  • Compiles and updates land maps that display pertinent land information pertaining to prospects within the assigned area of responsibility
  • Updates management team on current land positions
  • Directs and interacts with field lease brokers
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Grad / GED
  • Experience: 6+ years
