NextEra Energy Resources is one of the largest wholesale generators of electric power and renewable energy from the wind and sun in North America.

 

Position Specific Description

The position requires working from the Houston, TX office downtown or remotely from a home office located in Texas or a surrounding state.  This position is in the Environmental Licensing & Permitting Section of the Corporate Environmental Services Department supporting new development opportunities for NextEra Energy Resources and other NextEra Energy affiliates including renewable generation, energy storage, transmission, and other projects that support decarbonization of the US economy.

 

The position provides the opportunity to use your environmental knowledge and skills to acquire permits, complete risk assessments, and conduct due diligence to support project development.  .  The role is responsible for advising  multidisciplinary teams on environmental due diligence and permitting strategies to facilitate development of a broad range of projects including renewable generation (wind and solar), storage, transmission, fossil, hydrogen, and other projects that support decarbonization of the US economy.   

 

Primary responsibilities include working closely with development teams to obtain all required federal, state and local environmental licenses, permits and approvals for development projects in Texas and surrounding states in the Central and Midwest Regions, as needed. The successful candidate will have experience completing risk assessments and due diligence in the absence of requirements and obtaining permits and approvals where applicable from local, state, and federal governments or regulatory authorities.  Responsibilities will include coordination with the State Historic Preservation Officer, TX Public Utility Commission, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. 

 

The applicant must have relevant project management experience with the ability to lead new corporate development opportunities and acquisitions and the ability to support multiple projects with multifaceted environmental and regulatory issues.  Applicant must have the ability to assist in comprehensive environmental due diligence reviews for potential acquisitions.  Applicant must be willing to travel as needed up to 50%.

 

The successful candidate must maintain current knowledge of pertinent national and state level environmental policies and regulations, have the ability to effectively interface with internal and external customers, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders, and be able to facilitate resolving complex environmental matters. The successful candidate must help ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations, as well as company policies.
