Position Specific Description

Florida Power & Light is seeking temporary, college support for our dynamic innovative information technology team.  We are building automated, scalable, and resilient cloud and infrastructure services.  This position will participate in the design, build, and development cycle.  These services include public cloud, private cloud server virtualization, network services, and virtual desktops.


Ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong acumen for problem solving, abstract reasoning, and data-driven analysis
  • Knowledge of cloud and/or infrastructure system fundamentals such as those taught in introductory college-level information systems courses
  • Laboratory or work experience with AWS cloud, VMware, or networking such as load balancing and DNS
  • Experience developing scripts or software for automation
  • Knowledge of code management processes such as CI/CD and tools such as code repositories and code deployment


Must be enrolled in related college program, maintaining a minimum of 3.0 GPA.


Preferred skills:


  • Python, CloudFormation, Terraform, AWS, VMware, F5, Citrix
  • Experience with Agile processes and tools such as scrum process
  • Foundational certification with AWS, VMware, F5, Citrix, or related technologies


Position may be structured to accommodate college course schedule and availability, start date/end date and hours to be negotiated.


Job Overview

This position provides technical expertise and training, as part of a 24/7 Information Technology Support Center (ITSC) for network users across NextEra Energy companies. Employees in this role work with customers to identify and solve IT problems. This role is the critical first-point-of-contact with employees and contractors to quickly solve IT needs, helping to improve productivity and reduce costs.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

•  Provides creative solutions to technical problems while ensuring high customer satisfaction and productivity with minimal assistance

•  Researches, resolves, and responds to complex customer questions/inquiries received via telephone calls or escalations

•  Exercises good judgment in problem diagnosis, resolution and/or escalation

•  Acquires and maintains knowledge of relevant technology, product offerings, current support policies, and methods of support delivery

•  Makes recommendations to Supervision about training or documentation needs to better resolve recurrent problems and escalates individual and departmental items of concern

•  Acts as the liaison for major service disruptions, working with other departments and vendors to solve issues

•  Leads special projects as required

•  Assists management with scheduling and operational coaching

•  Performs other job-related duties as assigned
