Position Specific Description

With seven nuclear reactors at four plant sites around the country, today, NextEra Energy’s nuclear fleet is one of the largest in the nation. We are seeking a Plant Mechanic that will ensure the highest reliability of their assigned systems/components. As part of primary duties, you will also be responsible for supporting the execution of timely and cost effective outages. This is a special crew position - Monday - Friday Peak shift 15:30 - 23:30.

Job Overview

 Minimum requirements for job: Currently holds, or has held a Mechanic position within the FPL system, or currently holds, or has held a Mechanic position in a comparable industry (e.g. utility industry, chemical industry, manufacturing industry, or military), or has completed four years of formal apprentice training in one of the following crafts:   Power Plant Mechanic   Machinist   Boilermaker   Diesel Mechanic   Pipefitter   Aircraft Mechanic   Millwright  

-Or-

has performed at a journey level in any combination of two or more of the following crafts for three years or more:   Boilermaker   Iron Worker   Pipefitter   Machinist   Millwright   Aircraft Mechanic   Diesel Mechanic

 -AND-

three years working experience in one or more crafts.

Accountabilities:

The Mechanic is primarily responsible for the performance of corrective and preventive maintenance work on nuclear and non-nuclear related power plant equipment.  Power plant maintenance includes mechanical troubleshooting, repair, replacement, and or new installations of rotating equipment, stationary equipment, and valves.  Rotating equipment includes pumps, compressors, engines, fans, turbines, etc. Stationary equipment includes nuclear reactors, heat exchangers, tanks, pipes, piping supports, structural work, etc.  Work on the above type equipment also involves from time to time operation of cranes and forklifts, rigging, sandblasting, welding and painting.  In addition, the work also includes the ability to periodically work in heat stress areas, radiological areas, and in inclement weather. In addition, daily activities also include mechanical drawing reading, procedural compliance, record keeping, report writing, and root cause assessment of equipment problems, Interaction with other maintenance organizations and support groups occurs frequently.  The  Mechanic reports to a Leader.  Work schedules and overtime vary. The itinerant classification requires travel away from home for extended periods to other plant locations within the FPL system in order to support outage work.
