Position Specific Description

Florida Power & Light Company is committed to being an industry leader in environmental protection and stewardship, including wildlife and habitat protection. We have operations across Florida, so we're keenly aware of the potential impacts that existing and future operations may have on wildlife and their habitat. Therefore, we have environmental policies and programs in place at both the corporate and local levels to avoid and minimize these impacts and to address any remaining impacts through appropriate mitigation measures. As a member of the FPL wildlife team, you will face different challenges every day, some of which will be extraordinarily complex. We ask our wildlife experts to work alongside multiple disciplines including engineers, developers, operators, permitting specialists, and policy professionals. Other Preferred Qualifications 

Invasive Reptile Management: 

  • Extensive experience with Argentine black and white tegu control programs, including advanced trapping techniques, safe handling protocols, and humane euthanization of adults and juveniles
  • Demonstrated proficiency in conducting necropsies on large reptilian species, particularly tegus
  • Proven experience in comprehensive non-native reptile control operations, including work with Burmese pythons, green iguanas, and Nile monitors 

Crocodilian Species Expertise:  

  • Specialized experience conducting American crocodile population surveys and monitoring protocols 
  • Skilled in safe handling and restraint techniques for American crocodiles across all life stages, from hatchlings to subadults 

Field Operations and Navigation:  

  • Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in challenging field conditions, including extreme temperatures, nocturnal operations, high insect activity, and navigation through dense vegetation including poisonwood • 
  • Advanced airboat operation skills with extensive navigation experience in shallow water environments  
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Turkey Point cooling canal system layout, navigation routes, and operational protocols 

Technical and Data Management: 

  • Proficiency in field data collection and management using tablets and mobile technology platforms, including the incorporation of geospatial software applications for real-time data entry, GPS navigation, and field mapping 

Professional Skills and Knowledge: 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to maintain professional relationships across diverse stakeholder groups, including operations personnel, NGO representatives, regulatory agency staff, and external consultants  

Comprehensive knowledge of Florida's native flora and fauna with particular emphasis on species identification and ecological interactions 

Field expertise in eastern indigo snake survey methodologies

Job Overview

Employees in this job support environmental staff in obtaining environmental approvals, licenses and permits for construction and operation of new and existing NextEra, Inc. facilities from Federal, State and Regional agencies.
