Position Specific Description

Our NextEra Energy Transmission Operations Department is looking for a Power Supply System Operator to join their team at the Lone Star Transmission Head Quarters in Austin, Texas.  The Power Supply System Operator is responsible for the operations of transmission systems operated by Lone Star Transmission and NextEra Energy Transmission in various North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) regions including ERCOT, CAISO, MISO, and PJM.  The selected candidate will interface with field personnel, ISO’s, interconnected utilities, and interconnected generation resources.  The candidate is responsible for complying with NERC and regional reliability standards, protocols, and operating guides.
 
This position will  monitor and control the reliable transfer of power in the Lone Star operated transmission systems and facilities including reactive (Shunt Capacitor/Inductor) dispatch, and supervision of all activities within the Lone Star Transmission Control Center.

Job Overview

This position is responsible for directing all activities within the System Control Center ensuring safe, reliable and efficient service to the company's customers. Employees in this role maintain reliability of the transmission system according to regional/state reliability council/operator and NERC reliability standards and company operating practices. This position oversees all daily operational activities of the division load dispatchers, power coordinators and fulfills the requirements of the Reliability Coordinator Agent functions according to the reliability council process for the Bulk Electric System (BES). 

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Acts as leads operator at the company's System Control Center operating the BES to serve customers safely, reliably and efficiently
  • Operates as the Reliability Coordinator for the reliability coordinating council region BES to ensure reliable operations
  • Complies with all FERC, NERC and regional/state reliability standards and requirements associated with the operation of the BES
  • Forecasts near-term demand of the company's customers to ensure sufficient generation is committed and dispatched
  • Evaluates process generation, transmission and substation equipment clearance requests consistent with system reliability
  • Oversees and manages the processing of requests for transmission service and schedules of all interchange transactions by the power coordinators
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
     

Required Qualifications

  • High School Grad / GED
  • Bachelor's or Equivalent Experience
  • Experience: 6+ years
  • NERC Reliability Coordinator Certification/System Operator qualified

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Bachelor's - Engineering
