Position Specific Description

Lead end-to-end natural gas pricing for C&I customers across multiple markets. Own pricing models, inputs, and governance that translate market fundamentals, pipeline/LDC tariffs, transport and storage costs, weather normalization, and risk premiums into accurate, timely quotes. Partner closely with Sales, Supply, Customer Operations, Risk, and Legal to win competitively, execute cleanly, and protect margins. Senior operates as expert individual contributor; Manager additionally leads a small team and owns standards and roadmap.

Key Responsibilities

  • Price design and execution: Build/maintain fixed, index (NYMEX + adder), full-requirements/load-following, hybrid, and pass-through structures; calibrate adders for transport, storage, balancing, fuel, swing, no-notice, imbalance exposure.
  • Market modeling: Maintain Henry Hub and basis curves, seasonal/location differentials, volatility/optionality impacts; align marks with Risk and ensure hedge ability.
  • Transport/storage economics: Model pipeline/LDC tariffs, capacity reservation and fuel, storage inject/withdraw/capacity; reflect WACOG methodologies where applicable.
  • Weather/load normalization: Build profiles and risk premiums by market and segment using weather normalization and load-shape analytics.
  • Quote operations: Deliver fast, auditable custom quotes/RFPs with clear assumptions and approval trails; enable execution feasibility with Risk.
  • Governance and controls: Enforce pricing policy, approval matrices, version control, and documentation; support SOX/compliance and standards.
  • P&L integrity: Align pricing to hedge execution; monitor price-to-hedge slippage, back cast variance, and post-deal P&L with Portfolio Management and Risk; drive corrective actions.
  • Deal lifecycle integration: Coordinate across Sales, Supply, Customer Operations Support, Risk, Credit, and Legal through contracting, hedging, setup, billing, and confirmations.
  • Tooling/automation: Enhance pricing engine(s), data pipelines, and rate table maintenance; consolidate toward a single multi-market natural gas pricing engine.
  • Stakeholder enablement: Create pricing narratives, competitive intel, and win/loss insights; train Sales on product structures, fees, and pass-through mechanics.
  • Continuous improvement: Reduce manual touchpoints and cycle time, improve closed-deal communication to Risk, standardize pricing across markets.
  • Senior emphasis: Lead complex/strategic deals and novel structures; act as SME; mentor peers.
  • Manager additions: Manage 2–6 analysts, set priorities/SLAs, own multi-market governance and roadmap, hire/develop talent, represent Pricing cross-functionally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related.
  • Experience: Senior 5–8+ years in gas pricing/structuring or related Trading/Supply/Product Control; Manager 8–10+ years with 2–5 years leading pricing processes or teams.
  • Technical: Advanced Excel; SQL proficiency; at least one of VBA/Python/R/Alteryx; BI (Power BI/Tableau); comfort with market data feeds.
  • Financial/risk: Strong grasp of hedgeability/liquidity, option value in load-following products, P&L mechanics; ability to translate risk into pricing adders and approvals.
  • Soft skills: Clear communication, stakeholder management, prioritization under time pressure, high accuracy and speed.
  • Experience pricing across multiple LDCs/pipelines in the Northeast, Mid Con, South, & Southeast; and dealing with swing/no-notice, storage turns, balancing, retainage, and pass-throughs.
  • Familiarity with tariff constructs, storage injection/withdrawal cost recovery, and WACC/WACOG concepts in tariff or rider contexts.
  • Automation experience (APIs, scripting, data models) and model governance.

  • For Manager: people leadership, coaching, setting standards/SLAs.

Success Metrics

  • Quote turnaround time and win rate by segment/product, pricing accuracy vs. back cast and realized P&L, hedge slippage variance, reduction in manual steps, control/audit results; Senior: quality/impact of complex deals and mentoring; Manager: SLA attainment, standardization progress, team development.

Reporting and Leveling

  • Reports to: Director, Pricing & Structuring
  • Senior: no direct reports; Manager: 2–6 direct reports

  • Location: Houston or Atlanta
  • Travel: up to 15%

Job Overview

Employees in this role have the responsibility of establishing and implementing pricing and position strategies by leveraging knowledge of market, competitive analysis, and key financial metrics to attain pricing objectives and revenue growth.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversees Risk Reporting Analytics and Pricing department transactional functions
  • Ensures proper staffing, training, and process regimen to ensure Timeliness, Quantity, and Quality Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) are met and exceeded
  • Develops and maintains daily retail risk reports
  • Reports requirements including profit and loss analysis, position reporting, and assets optimization
  • Prices energy transactions using experience with developing advanced pricing models, pricing derivatives, and risk management related to energy commodities
  • Develops advanced core algorithms and models that lead to and support the energy trading business
  • Manages, guides, directs, and mentors analysts within the group
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
