Position Specific Description

Under direct supervision, this intern applies diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to broad variety of assignments and related fields. Acts as a single point of contact for projects for the department. Develops knowledge and skills within a specific practice area. Evaluates, selects, and applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional projects with few complex features. Collaboratively uses judgment to determine adaptations in methods for non-routine aspects of assignments. Works on small projects or portions of larger projects. Supports development of standards and engineering guidelines, conducts analysis on system performance and reliability strategy and provides recommendations. Candidates must have cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher to be considered. Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program required. 

Travel between worksites and other locations is a critical job function and expectation of this position. A valid driver's license and access to personal transportation are highly preferred, as the selected candidate will spend a significant portion of their time attending meetings at other worksites and in the field. For field positions specifically, regular travel to various sites in the assigned service area is essential, as these locations are typically not accessible through public transportation.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of an equipment condition assessment tracking and risk management procedure
  • Apply knowledge to real world operating failure modes experienced in the fleet
  • Work activities may include such items as preparation of reports, calculations, specifications and scope documents as well as generating sketches and drawings in AutoCad format
  • Intern will work with the equipment on how to analyze and troubleshoot equipment problems
  • Some driving, utilizing interns own reliable vehicle
  • Support Maximo initiatives

 

Strong Preferences:

  • Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering majors
  • Understanding of power concepts and completion of some power classes 

Job Overview

To be considered for an internship, you must be actively enrolled at a college or university as a full-time student seeking a bachelor’s degree or higher. You must also have a current cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher (on a 0.00 to 4.00 scale).

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists department with assigned projects
  • Completes challenging projects and assignments
  • Presents final project to senior leadership at the end of the internship
  • Assumes responsibility for own travel, lodging, and transportation necessary to be available for the program
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High school grad / GED
  • Maintain active enrollment in a Bachelor or higher degree program
  • Maintain cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
