Position Specific Description

As a member of a highly-specialized environmental quality group within NextEra Energy Pipeline Services Company (NEPS) Environmental, Health, Safety, and Emergency Response Department, the Sr. PGD Environmental Specialist would be responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state and municipal environmental regulations for NEPS Landfill Gas and Renewable Natural Gas operated assets. The successful candidate will assist in the permitting efforts for new facilities and play a key role in the compliance assurance for facilities covered under existing permits and environmental regulations. The Sr. PGD Environmental Specialist would also maintain compliance calendars, prepare emission calculations, schedule emissions monitoring and testing, file necessary forms and reports, conduct facility audits, liaise with government officials during inspections, and assist in the preparation and implementation of corrective action plans, where necessary. Ancillary duties include advising management of pending changes in environmental regulations and their potential impact to operations. This position reports to the NEPS PGD Environmental Services Manager.

 

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Thorough understanding of New Source Review (NSR) permitting, Title V permitting, and requirements under the New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) and National Emissions Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) regulations;
  • Experience in air quality compliance in the landfill gas and oil & natural gas sector;
  • Technically-proficient at emission calculations, data analysis, control technologies, compliance auditing, permitting, and strategic regulatory analyses;
  • Proficient in emission calculation software and environmental quality databases management;
  • Familiar with air modeling new and existing projects;
  • Self-starter with strong cognitive problem-solving abilities;
  • Team player with demonstrated history of meeting project deadlines; and
  • Motivated goal-oriented individual with excellent organization, planning & implementation, time-management, and quality control skills;
  • Ability to understand and communicate risks associated with permitting and maintaining compliance to leadership and within project execution teams.

 

Highly Preferred Candidate:

  • BS in engineering, meteorology, environmental sciences, other discipline related to the position;
  • Local, State, and Federal Permitting and Compliance experience in the United States;
  • Ability to work in results driven, fast -paced environment;
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written, proposal and presentation); and
  • Proficient in Adobe, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Able to travel up to 50% to and from company assets, proposed project sites, and for other agency/project meetings.

 

Location: Mid-Atlantic or near major airport hub (i.e., Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, etc.)

  • Provides project management support for environmental due diligence
  • Ensures robust processes and systems are in place to manage due diligence and permitting to prevent permitting project delays
  • Ensures consultant and vendor project management complies with corporate procurement and financial policies
  • Identifies and mitigates environmental risks and provides innovative solutions to minimize environmental impacts
  • Provides environmental permitting and compliance expert technical support for business unit
  • Translates environmental regulations and permits into actionable compliance tasks
  • Develops environmental processes and procedures
  • Develops, tracks, and analyzes environmental performance metrics
  • Leads environmental event response follow-up and supports root cause identification and countermeasure implementation
  • Communicates and reports effectively on environmental issues to the business unit
  • Collaborates effectively and proactively with environmental agencies, internal customers, and other stakeholders
  • Understands and communicates business implications of new environmental legislation and regulations
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
