Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy Retail is seeking a Senior Accountant to join as a Senior Gas Accountant as part of the Gexa Accounting team in Houston, TX. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills and take ownership of various projects, adding value through critical thinking and inter-personal skills with knowledge of either the retail gas or power industry.
 
Specific Responsibilities include:
•    Prepare month end journal entries and supporting documentation (revenues, cost of goods sold, receivables, prepaids, fixed assets, deposits, accrued interest, etc.)
•    Prepare balance sheet reconciliations.
•    Prepare month end close results file.
•    Compile and analyze financial information for regulatory reporting
•    Analyze costs by responsibility center and communicate monthly with business owners

•    SAP Experience
•    Advanced proficiency in Excel (vlookups, pivots, formulas, etc.)
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•    SQL report writing, PowerBI and Access database experience helpful but not required

Job Duties & Responsibilities


•   Prepares financial reports that are in compliance with GAAP, in a timely manner, to accurately reflect the financial status of the company
•   Maintains a good understanding of, and applies, GAAP, SEC regulations, and relative company policies, practices and procedures
•   Assures accounting integrity of corporate financial data through the implementation of appropriate internal controls
•   Prepares schedules and journal entries
•   Provides guidance and direction to other team members
•   Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

•  Bachelor's - Accounting / Finance / Business
•  Experience: 4+ years

Preferred Qualifications


•  Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
•  Master's - Business Administration
•  Master's - Accounting / Finance
