Position Specific Description

We are currently seeking a Lead Landman who exemplifies professionalism and has a passion for today’s Energy Industry.  In this role, you will be responsible and accountable for supporting a multi-rig horizontal development program and working on multiple projects simultaneously. 


In addition to the responsibilities below, this individual will be responsible for the following:

  • Capable of performing all day-to-day land functions related to horizontal well development activities, including, but not limited to, title opinion reviews, curative, surface agreements, pooling agreements and division order support.
  • Negotiates sophisticated Oil & Gas Leases, Joint Operating Agreements, Farmin/Farmout Agreements, Surface Use and Subsurface Easement Agreements, and other industry agreements.
  • Proficiently reviews, interprets, drafts and administers Oil & Gas Leases and various complex contracts and agreements.
  • Effectively manage multiple land brokerage firms simultaneously who are performing non-producing and producing title research, title abstracting and lease acquisitions.
  • Provides project updates to management regarding lease acquisitions and rig schedule planning objectives.
  • Demonstrates a high-level understanding of the State of Louisiana Department of Natural Resources and Texas Railroad Commission Regulatory rules and regulations.
  • Supports surface land team for negotiating and securing the necessary surface access for well locations, facilities, pipeline and road ROW agreements in effort to meet development timelines
  • Works closely with the Land Administration department for maintaining existing and newly acquired assets
  • Develops relationships within the oil and gas industry to facilitate partnering and trade opportunities.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal/written communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Performs other job-related duties as directed by the Asset Leadership
  • Mentoring lesser experienced Landmen and land support team members.
  • Prior in-house Texas and Louisiana experience is preferred.
  • RPL or CPL certification a plus.

Job Overview

This job is responsible for providing knowledge, research and coordination of land issues dealing with drilling and operations in the asset’s and/or company’s focus areas. Employees in this role procure and manage the company’s mineral and leasehold interests for an assigned geographical area by obtaining the legal right to drill oil and gas wells on a specific property.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Verifies ownership of property where the company seeks to explore for oil and gas
  • Negotiates the purchase of oil and gas leases, or assignments of oil and gas leases
  • Researches and reports the company’s ownership position, competitor activity, potential legal issues, or other matters for the purpose of decision making and strategic planning
  • Coordinates and communicates with representatives from internal departments
  • Ensures the appropriate steps are taken to meet the company drilling goals and deadlines
  • Compiles and updates land maps that display pertinent land information pertaining to prospects within the assigned area of responsibility
  • Updates management team on current land positions
  • Directs and interacts with field lease brokers
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Grad / GED
  • Experience: 6+ years
